How to Prepare Your Contract for AI Analysis

The quality of AI analysis depends directly on the quality of the uploaded document. SmartSplitAI works best with properly formatted DOCX files. Here is how to prepare your contract.

Why DOCX

DOCX files preserve the document structure: headings, section breaks, tables, and — critically — tracked changes. SmartSplitAI reads this structure and uses it to organize the AI conclusion. A well-formatted DOCX with proper heading styles produces a more organized analysis than a flat text file.

Tracked Changes and Comments

SmartSplitAI handles Track Changes in DOCX files. Added text is analyzed as part of the document. Deleted text is excluded from analysis — the system understands it was removed by agreement. Comments are extracted separately so you can see what questions were raised during negotiation. Note: not all Track Changes scenarios are fully supported; complex revision histories may require a clean copy for best results.

Before Uploading

Make sure the file is not password-protected. Verify that the document opens correctly and is not corrupted. If you received the contract in another application, save or export it as DOCX. Remove any watermarks that overlay the text — they can interfere with extraction. Check that the document uses standard heading styles rather than manual formatting.

Specifying Your Role

Before uploading, you must specify your company's economic role: payer or receiver. The same clause means different things depending on your role. A penalty clause is protection for the payer but risk for the receiver. SmartSplitAI evaluates every clause through this lens.

Version Comparison

If a counterparty sends a revised version of the contract, use the Diff Review mode. Upload your original DOCX and the modified DOCX.
