Document Formats Supported by SmartSplitAI Contract Review

SmartSplitAI Contract Review supports several document formats.

DOCX — Recommended Format

DOCX files are processed in full: text, tables, structure. Tracked changes are handled correctly: insertions accepted, deletions excluded, comments extracted separately.

Text-Layer PDF

PDF files work if they have a text layer — meaning you can select and copy text with your mouse. The system extracts the text and analyzes it.

TXT — Plain Text

TXT files are accepted but lose formatting and document structure. Good for quick checks but results are less detailed.

Scanned PDFs — Not Supported

SmartSplitAI does not perform OCR. Scanned documents without a text layer are not accepted. This is an intentional limitation: OCR errors can introduce inaccuracies unacceptable for contract analysis.

How to Check Your PDF

Open the PDF and try to select text with your mouse. If text highlights and copies — the file works. If the cursor draws a selection rectangle and text doesn't copy — it's a scan and won't work.
